La Côte Saint Jacques

In Joigny, only a little more than an hour away from Paris and at the doors of the Bourgogne region the Relais & Châteaux La Côte Saint Jacques, with three hats or three stars depending on which guide you turn to is really the gourmet stop not to miss in the region.

This is a family story in fact, Marie Lorrain opened a family hotel here just after the war. The place is then revisited and takes on prestige under the lead of the father, Michel Lorrain. He is charismatic and an exceptional Chef, and he lets his son Jean-Michel in on his secrets. After an introduction in the most well known kitchens of the world, he takes over and at age 27 reaches the so coveted 3 stars in the Michelin guide. After that of course the place is embellished, perfected with a climax reached in 2007 when the marvellous “Côté Coon” Spa opened its doors. At age 48, Jean Michel Lorrain is happy with his totally creative cuisine, respecting products he is careful in selecting. He likes to offer dishes that are simple in appearance, with hidden flavours that you will discover as you enjoy them. The ideal gourmet menu is really an invitation to travel thanks to flavours from here and elsewhere, with traditional dishes that made the success and reputation of the establishment offered alongside more recent creations, having you rediscover the most interesting world of taste and textures so enjoyed by this generous Chef: «I think cuisine should stay simple and gourmet, a moment to share, not an abstract and conceptual view”. This is a gourmet stop surrounded by nature you are in for, the idyllic settings of La Côte St Jacques. Here all is peaceful and quiet, the tones are warm and wooden with stones from Bourgogne, reminding us that we are in one of French gourmet cuisine’s birthplaces.
