When René Lasserre bought a bistro-hangar that was built for the 1937 World Exhibition, little did he know that the place would soon become the headquarters of theme nights organised around novelties in the world of cinema, literature or art.
Yet numerous personalities met here, among them Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Frédéric Dard, André Malraux, Romy Schneider or Audrey Hepburn, all of them making Lasserre their Parisian hide-out. The Lasserre establishment rose quickly thanks to the extraordinary energy of one man, René Lasserre. With his inventiveness and sense of perfection he managed to create a team and one of Paris’ gourmet institutions. What could we say about this place, ideally located close to the Champs Elysées and avenue Montaigne. The place is timeless for sure, the velvet-clad elevator is historic and has certainly lifted great men, the dining room of the restaurant is beautiful with this spectacular opening roof that is certainly the most famous in the world... And of course some charming private dining rooms on the ground floor allow you to organise your private receptions while still enjoying the light of day, all very pleasant. The kitchens at Lasserre have seen many a Chef that are now famous. Marc Haeberlin in Illhaeursern, Michel Rostang in Paris, Jean Paul Lacombe in Lyon, Guy Savoy in Paris, Gérard Boyer (formerly in Reims), Jacques Lameloise... but let us leave some place for a talented and precise man, who has been in charge since 2001 : Jean Louis Nomicos... He has always managed to keep his own identity vis-à-vis his masters (mainly Ducasse). He was born in Marseille and has fond memories of large Sunday lunches under the fig tree at his grand parents’. His dishes reflect a certain happy feeling, a certain friendliness, always colourful as they are. Jean-Louis Nomicos likes to create a precise kind of cuisine, with Mediterranean accents, always leaving a large place to vegetables, according to the season. This Chef is very pleasant, always smiling and he has not forgotten his classics either. Dishes that have made Lasserre’s reputation are still on the menu... The Tasting Menu was composed especially for ideal gourmet and it is a true discovery of the restaurant’s specialties, not forgetting some new creations.
This is an exceptional place, an ideal gourmet favourite, for its history and tradition.
