Restaurant Loctudy Pen Ar Vir

The pretty village of Loctudy is of course in itself a good reason for a visit in the region or even a stay there but the Pen Ar Vir restaurant gives you even further reasons. It boasts an incredible location on a former island that has become a near island (just like Tudy Island). Loctudy, close to pointe de Penmarch is a part of the famous Bigouden region of Brittany. For a few more years, you can be sure to see elderly women here wearing the high and traditional Bigouden hat… A traditional element that is losing momentum… This peaceful village is squeezed in between Pont-l'Abbé and Lesconil, facing ile Tudy. It is here, in calm surroundings and close to the sea that Arnaud and Christine Le Levier have chosen to create an establishment that is rather different. Pen Ar Vir is the arrow's point in Breton. They have grouped all elements necessary to build a truly traditional Breton house and have carefully chosen its location: this pretty place offers a view overlooking a part of the sea so beautiful that it is actually a protected area. Pen Ar Vir is a large restaurant all on one level, with sober and discreet decoration. A beautiful terrace offers an ideal space for a drink and overlooks the very green garden. Arnaud and Christine met thanks to this passion and trade but they have travelled a lot before settling in Finistère. As for the cuisine, there are some new elements! Of course what we have here is a very precise Chef, truly in love with his products that he respects as much as those who provide them. The fishermen who usually sell him products know that Arnaud is a very demanding Chef! And we are happy to see that he has decided to go beyond the usual menu to offer dishes according to the market, to the season but first and foremost according to his mood. And the adventure starts according to his wishes: make the guest happy while taking pleasure in creating the dishes! His compositions are of course always numerous and he can always find the right mixes to satisfy his guests. Their enthusiasm is of course fuelled by Christine in the dining room. She is really good at combining her husband's creations with the ideal wine, that is her specialty. More than in any other restaurant, the purpose is for the guest to enjoy himself and to keep in touch with him at all times. Profit is not a concept that is developed here at all and it is therefore not surprising to see only 20 tables when 40 could be used, that is a choice the Chef and hostess deliberately made. With too many tables it would be impossible to discuss a choice of dish or wine with each guest, those details that are often forgotten in respectable establishments with ambitious objectives. All is said. You will have understood that the ideal gourmet menu is custom made and that is rare enough to be noticed. Pen Ar Vir is really a favourite, so try it!
